Middle Cottage, Aston, Nantwich

The cottage, which is close to the borders of Shropshire and Wales, is approximately 200 years old. It is a double fronted middle cottage, situated between 2 smaller ones. The two reception rooms have beamed ceilings, bay windows, and the lounge has a log burning stove. There is a walled and gated courtyard at the front of the cottage and a long, large, enclosed garden to the rear, which looks on open fields. The extended kitchen/diner, is open plan, and overlooks the garden. The seating area in the kitchen contains a large sofa bed. Just off the kitchen is a small bathroom with a toilet and washbasin. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms, and a large bathroom, which has been recently refurbished in relaxing colours, textures and style, with a walk in shower. To the side of one of the cottages, there is an access road which leads to the large wooden entrance doors to the garden. Immediately outside the back of the house is a paved area, and then a large gravelled area for parking. After that there are flower beds, and then two areas of lawn. The central heating is oil based, and the boiler is situated outside.

About the location

Aston is a small, beautiful old village, with some black and white houses dating back to the 1600’s. It’s famous pub, The Bhurtpore, is just across the road, and is known far and wide for its curries, due to its historic links with India. Manchester Airport is 50 minutes away. Aston is also part of the Wrenbury Community, which is 1 mile away, and has a Railway Station (2 hours to London by train, next station is Crewe), a Health Centre, a coffee shop, a village store and a post office, with a village green to boot! In July there is a scarecrow festival, and all year around, the Llangollen canal brings many tourists to the area, as there is a marina for the canal boats. There are many beautiful buildings which have played a part in our history, like Wrenbury Hall, where the Roundheads sheltered on the eve of the famous Nantwich battle of 1643. The area is also very popular for walking and cycling The villages of Marbury and Audlem are approximately 8-10 minutes away, and are a must for any tourist who wants to experience ‘picture postcard’ English villages!

Nantwich (8 minutes away) is one of the most beautiful towns in the UK, and is known for having the highest concentrations of listed buildings in England, with particularly good examples of Tudor and Georgian architecture. During the English Civil War Nantwich declared for Parliament and was besieged several times by Royalist forces. A final six-week siege was lifted after a Parliamentary victory in the Battle of Nantwich on 26 January 1644. This has been re-enacted as "Holly Holy Day" on every anniversary since 1973, and thousands of people and bands take part. There is a park and lake, a canal marina, an open market, a church known as the Cathedral of South Cheshire, and a museum, plus many shops and restaurants.

Whitchurch is also well worth a visit, the border of Cheshire and Shropshire is minutes away, and we are very close to Wales. I can’t fail to mention the amazing public houses, which in my experience, are amongst the very best in the UK, and are all dog friendly. I must recommend the Swan at Marbury, and the Cholmondeley Arms, just beyond Wrenbury. You won’t be disappointed!
