Stoke Newington is approx 3 miles from the City of London and is an independent, arty, friendly place. The area is famous for food and there are a lot of great shops, restaurants and gastro-pubs as well as an all-organic farmers market. Unusually for London it also has a lot of green space/parks which are well used by locals. It is extremely well connected locally and to the rest of London (approx 15 mins to the city).
