Village cottage with garden

The house has two double and two single bedrooms. We would like to keep one spare during swaps.

Ours is an old cottage which we are slowly modernising. It was re-wired 8 years ago and all rooms except one of the bedrooms have now been redecorated.

So things some people won't like? The house is built into the slope of the valley and like most cottages in the village can feel clammy in bad weather. Although we've redecorated, most of the carpeting and many fittings are 20 years old and more. Lots of things (taps, doors) work in a quirky manner. We do not have a microwave, dishwasher or tumble drier.

We have two cats - friends to take care of them when necessary - and a dog who goes to a dog-sitter.

About the location

Our house is in the beautiful village of Chalford, set in the Golden Valley where the Cotswold hills give way to the Severn Vale. The river Frome (here a broad stream) passes the end of our garden.

Chalford is a quiet, friendly and a bit funky village with a community-run shop, a pub and a small park by the river. Within an hour or so's drive you can visit Bristol, Bath, the Forest of Dean, or Oxford. Horseriding, golf, and watersports are all available not far away, and there are a number of attractive walks from the front door.
