About the location
Glen Iris is renown for its avenues of large oak trees, large family homes, each with a garden in front and back. The avenue has grassland along the roadway and each property has private parking. It is close to the centre of Melbourne, which is easily accessible by car, public transport or bicycle. Several highly regarded shopping areas are located nearby. Glen Iris is an old, well established suburb, dating back to the 1920's. Many houses are original with modern extensions, while some are quite new and modern. Glen Iris has many public parks and gardens.
Our street contains only fully detached period Australian style single storey brick homes, with gardens all around them, and some with extensions. It is mostly occupied by families, with children aged from babies to teenagers. There are also older residents who have lived in the street for most of their lives. Our house overlooks a public park with large Australian trees, the Gardiner's Creek wetlands, a sporting oval and a children's playground. The park is popular with many local families for walking their dogs.
