Charming Stone Cottage in Wytham Oxford

Our home is a 200+ year old stone cottage with thatch roof, wooden cross beams, and very large garden. Our visitors often describe it as a dream house. Well, we agree.

The house is very traditional English cottage: very wide stone walls, low ceilings, relatively small rooms, and charm everywhere. We live there with our two children and one dog, and it is ideal for a similar family. There is one adult bedroom with a large double bed, and two kid's bedrooms with single beds. We have an exceptionally large number of toys and board games that you are welcome to use, as well as, a lot of non-violent kid's dvds and a lot of books.

Our garden is very large, about an acre, with about 25 trees, most of them are old, and some are very old. We have a stream that is running at the end of the cottage, which is a side branch of the river Thames. We have a large number of different balls for ball games: football, handball, volleyball, as well as bicycles and scooters for everyone, table tennis table, badminton bats and net, speedminton bats, a swing, a tree climbing rope system. We also have a canoe for the entire family, a single adult kayak, and a single kid's kayak.

About the location

Our village, Wytham, is very small, only about 130-140 inhabitants, one pub, one shop. Which is ideal, as it has a small community feeling, while Oxford is only a mile away, and central Oxford is 4.5 miles away by car, and 3.5 miles away by bike (with the bike ride running next to the Thames, on the wonderful Thames path).

Next to our village is Wytham woods, a beautiful forest, with some exceptionally nice walks. Half a mile from our house is the Thames, which is very different from the wide London version: here it is a relatively small river, with a lot of wildlife.

So, this is a perfect combination of a quiet beautiful village life, with some of the nicest walks Oxfordshire can offer, with the centre of Oxford only 12 minutes car away, with its intellectual excitements: fantastic museums, concerts, theatre, libraries.
