pilgrim hideaway
Built for a whaling ship captain in the 1850's this little gem of a cottage has it's own small fenced garden and feels very private but is only a 10 minute walk from the center of town and a ten minute bike ride from several beautiful beaches. The town is full of artists and art galleries and lots of performers in the summer, but the beaches are never crowded and there is a large area of undeveloped land in the National Seashore for exploring. Great restaurants in town but a full kitchen if you like to cook. Farmers market every week and lots of fresh fish. Popular vacation spot for over 100 years and tourists come from all walks of life. Master bedroom with shower upstairs and small bedroom( fold out couch) with bath downstairs. Back deck with outdoor furniture and two bikes to use while you're in town. Has TV and cable and air conditioning if you need it but the ocean breezes keep it cool. Outdoor shower for when you get back from the beach!
About the location
As above. This is where the Pilgrims first landed after sailing from England and was an important whaling port in the 1800's. Artists like Tennessee Williams and Eugene O'Neill and Norman Mailer have come here to write and frolic throughout the 20th century and there is school of American Impressionism here due to the exquisite quality of the light. You can swim in the protected bay or in the ocean and humpback whales are easily seen just offshore and sometimes from the beach! Take a shuttle boat out to Long Point for the day and have the place to yourself, just you and the harbor seals. The whole town can be seen by foot or by bike and all stays open late in the summer.
