Hafan Wen, Uplands

Our lovely house sits at the very gateway to the glory of the Gower Peninsular. The first of Britain`s designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Gower lives up to its reputation for peace and unspoilt beautiful beaches. Swansea magnificent Bay is a short walk from our home and the fashionable village of Mumbles with all its independent shops, cafes and wonderful restaurants is just a mile down along the promenade.

The area is awash with beautiful parks and gardens. Brynmill Park, five minutes` walk away with a great coffee shop at its southern entrance, has a wonderful children`s play park and a lake where abundant bird life abounds. Singleton Park - formerly the grounds of Singleton Abbey, now part of Swansea University, is enormous - with a lily pond, botanic garden, a walled garden and even a beautiful sensory garden. Clyne Gardens, a mile away, was formerly part of the estate surrounding Clyne Castle, now luxury apartments. It is famous for award winning displays of azaleas and rhododendron in late May. For the adventurous, along the way to Mumbles is a huge new and very popular skate park just next to the beautiful promenade walk alongside the bay.

Our home is named Hafan Wen which is Welsh and means White Haven. Our lovely house, built in 1910, retains Edwardian features with our addition of modern style and amenities. Original features, including fireplaces, ornate plasterwork and staircase add to its elegance and the modern kitchen/diner is the hub of family life in this lovely home. There is a gorgeous sun room and terrace looking over the water to Exmoor and the north Devon coastline. Our home provides secure parking for two cars to the rear where remotely operated rear shutter doors provide complete privacy.

You enter this Edwardian house through the front door into a large hallway then on to a beautiful sitting room with cable TV and a large sun room overlooking the huge Swansea Bay. There is wifi with boosters throughout he house. Also on the ground floor there is a large office, kitchen/diner and cloakroom.

On the first floor are two large double bedrooms, dressing room and bathroom. The top floor is an art studio with full internet access and wonderful views of Mumbles village to the west.

The sunny terrace is perfect for summer evenings looking out over the sea... perhaps with a glass or two of something cool! The bifold doors to the sun room open on to the terrace bringing the home and outdoor space together in harmony. The terrace is planted with a lovely array of plants, shrubs and hanging baskets.

We live on the edge of the City of Swansea, birthplace of internationally renowned poet and playwright Dylan Thomas and a buzzing place to live with a beautiful marina. On the doorstep is not only of the absolute beauty of Gower peninsular, but also Pembrokeshire`s stunning scenery and beaches, the Wales Millennium Path.. (walkers` path round the whole coast of Wales ) and so much more. Wales has more castles to explore than anywhere in Europe!

This is the home of the Welsh Male Voice Choir. David is a member of the Dunvant Male Voice choir rehearse and perform near Swansea. There are many classical concerts held year round in both Swansea and Cardiff and just through the park at the end of our street is Taliesin. Swansea University`s Arts centre with live performances and films shown most evenings.

This really is an area that shines. Glorious and hardly used beaches and some stunning walks in the hills. The famous Brecon Beacons only an hour to the north and Bath, Bristol and London a train or car ride away! Parks, wine bars, coffee shops, galleries and cinema... it`s all here.

We are very experienced travellers and have lived and worked overseas having lived in Australia for a few years recently. We have over six years` experience as exchangers with Guardian Home Exchange and have had such kind and complimentary feedback from swappers.

Needless to say your home would be respected and cared for as we do our own. About the location

So close to the beach, Uplands is also so close to shops and amenities including many restaurants pubs and wine bars. Hafan Wen offers you a beach holiday, museums and galleries, villages and historic towns and of course the glorious Welsh Mountains all within easy access. And with the trendiest spot in the City of Swansea, Uplands with a monthly artisan`s market the last Saturday of each month, a short walk down the road. You are spoilt for choice for wine bars, pubs, coffee shops and food stores on Uplands Square.

The entrance to Gower is a ten minute drive from our home. Here are glorious, unspoilt beaches. The north, centre and south of the Peninsular offer long walks on the sands or in the dunes, excellent pubs and restaurants throughout and of course world class surfing. A short drive into the Brecon Beacons and the mountain views and walks are spectacular. Just across the county border to Carmathenshire, be sure to visit Pembrey Country Park where the pure soft sandy beach stretches for eight miles. Wales has so many beautiful and historic place to visit .. including more castles than you may be able to manage. Our record is six in one day from Hafan Wen! Beat that!!

Bus services throughout the area and into Gower are excellent. Cardiff, Capital City of Wales - less than an hour`s drive away along the excellent M4 motorway - is a vibrant City with an historic castle and prestigious museum and art gallery. The rail connection to London on our doorstep. Cardiff airport is an hour`s drive away has daily flights to Europe.
