Secluded woodland location for South of France
Tucked away in the hills of Provence, this house, which has been in the family for over 30 years, is the perfect spot for some rest and relaxation, as well as conveniently located for exploring the surrounding area.
The house is surrounded by trees, which offer shade from the summer sun, and has a swimming pool directly in front of it. It has two ensuite bedrooms, one with a bath and shower, the other with a shower only. The living room has old family furniture from early 20th century Berlin, the kitchen/dining room was recently renovated and has a small dishwasher and fridge and there is a back bedroom (ideal for children) attached to a utility room with a washing machine. There is no television or CD/DVD player but there are plenty of books and a WiFi connection.
We tend to spend the majority of our time outside, relaxing by the pool with a book or enjoying a glass of wine on the terrace. Our children loved playing boules in the garden, and picking figs in the surrounding area, while a short walk to the top of the hill at night affords memorable views of the night sky on a clear night.
About the location
The house is a leisurely 15-20 minute stroll (or a five minute cycle) outside the beautiful village of Entrecasteaux, which (despite having just 1000 inhabitants) boasts an imposing château (with a garden designed by André Le Nôtre), five excellent restaurants, a baker, butcher, newsagent and small grocery store. Larger supermarkets, as well as cash points, can be found in the neighbouring villages of Carces and Salernes, both less than 10km away.
There is plenty to see and do in the immediate vicinity - wild swimming, canoeing and horse riding for the more active, visiting vineyards or strolling through the many local markets for the more sedentary - but the house is also well placed for exploring. Travel north and you will find the Gorges du Verdon, only discovered in 1906, with opportunities for swimming and sailing; travel west and within an hour you will come to Aix en Provence and fine art galleries such as the Hôtel de Caumont; travel south you will reach St Maximin, a delightful boat ride away from St Tropez and travel east and you can get to the famous centres of the Côte d`Azur, Antibes, Cannes, Nice or Menton, in an hour or an hour and a half.
We are confident you will love this special house and beautiful part of the world as much as we do, and look forward to hearing from you!
