Rural Suffolk
A three bedroom semi-detached cottage in rural Suffolk, with double bedroom annex in the garden.
The cottage and shed both have oil-fired central heating and there is a Rayburn in the kitchen of the cottage. There is one bathroom with a shower over the bath, and a double bed and bathroom (also with bath and shower), in the renovated garden `shed`.
The house is small and quirky, with an open fire in the living room and wooden floors throughout and has been our family home for the last 18 years. The bedrooms are all doubles and there is a conservatory overlooking the garden, which is made up of a smaller country lawn complete with an apple tree and plum tree, outdoor seating, and two patio areas, one of which overlooks the fields. The rest of the garden is comprised of a lawn except for a small enclosure where we currently keep our geese and chickens. There is one resident cats (see photos) who comes and goes as he pleases through a cat flap. The lane outside is quiet, and all the neighbours are lovely. The house overlooks Suffolk fields, and the area feels very private. You will need a car to explore the area.
NB. There is no TV but great sunsets and good WiFi!
It would be great if guests would be happy to look after our geese, chickens (free - range eggs!) and cat - but if not we can easily organise someone to take care of them!
About the location
The cottage is situated in the Mid-Suffolk countryside, in the hamlet of Pixey Green, close to the villages of Stradbroke, Fressingfield, Hoxne, and Laxfield, all of which have a shop and country pub (e.g. the famous King`s Head, nicknamed the `Low House` at Laxfield, the Fox and Goose at Fressingfield).
To the south, there is the historic market town of Framlingham, with its famous castle and local vineyard. Approximatley half an hour away is the lovely town of Woodbridge, on the banks of the River Deben, which combines excellent shops, superb pubs and restaurants, with a tidemill and the nearby National Trust site of Sutton Hoo.
To the east, it is half an hour to the beautiful East Anglian coast with the town of Southwold and the nearby village of Walberswick, the National Nature Reserve of Dunwich Heath, and RSPB`s flagship reserve of Minsmere. The Suffolk Sandlings Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with Snape and Aldeburgh, and Rendlesham Forest are all highlights and there are many pretty villages and market towns to explore.
The Norfolk border is 6 miles to the north, with the valley of the River Waveney in between. The cathedral city of Norwich with its castle, famous market, and old quarter is good for shopping and browsing. Beyond are the Norfolk Broads, and the unspoilt wide open beaches of North Norfolk. London is 90 minutes away by train from nearby town Diss.
