Margate town house
We live in a four storey Georgian house in Margate old town, less than 5 mins walk from the main beach. The lower ground floor is open plan with a lounge, dining and bespoke kitchen area with open wooden shelving. In the winter under floor heating and a log burner keep the space really cosy. In the summer we spend a lot of time in the south facing walled garden which opens, via double doors, directly out from the kitchen. In the main living area we have comfy seating, a record player (and collection), projector (with netflix etc) a piano and lots of board games (for all ages). There`s also a cellar with a washer and dryer. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fan oven, fridge/freezer, dishwaher, microwave and soda stream.
The ground floor of the house has a small entrance hall with space for coats and shoes and an additional living area, with a sofa bed, desk/study area, lots of books, and another log burner. It`s got lovely light and beautiful stained glass windows.
The first floor of the house has a double bedroom with kingsize bed, and a childs room with a small double bed. There`s a toilet on this floor.
The top floor of the house has a further double bedroom with kingsize bed, a family bathroom (with bath/shower) and a small additional study area.
The house has central heating through and wifi.
We have a 9 year old son (so have a good stock of childrens toys, books and art/craft supplies) as well as 8 year old cat who we`d be grateful if you can feed. She is good natured and very low maintenance. We have bikes and a blow up kayak and other beach gear you can borrow.
About the location
We live overlooking Trinity Square, less than 5 mins walk from Margate`s main sands (where we swim year round) and the boutiques, cafes and restaurants of the old town. There are a selection of wonderful eateries (and pubs/bars) within a 2-10 min radius of the house. Margate is packed full of culture, with Turner Contemporary art gallery and Dreamland fun fair both less than a 10 min stroll away along the seafront. We are almost directly opposite the newly opened Margate Caves, and a short walk from the mysterious underground Shell Grotto. 7 miles of beaches make for great days out as well as for walking and cycling adventures along the coast.
Margate`s a great base for exploring East Kent and we often go on trips to Dover Castle, the White Cliffs, other towns like Canterbury, Whitstable, Sandwich and Deal - which are all within about 30 min drive and/or accessible on the train. There are also beautiful marshes at Reculver and nearby Stodmarsh.
Margate is 1h25 from London and well connected in terms of public transport, including to Thanet`s other coastal towns Broadstairs and Ramsgate via a loop bus that runs every 10 mins.
We`re really connected to the cultural community within Margate so can give lots of recommendations for what to do and where to go.
