A historic house, built in approximately 1790, in the centre of the bustling village of Slaithwaite. It’s a beautiful cosy home, with a well equipped kitchen and AGA for cooking, a downstairs toilet, dining room and sitting room, with a sofa that turns into a comfortable double bed if needed. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms, and two bathrooms, both with showers, and one with a bath as well. There is also a dressing room attached to the master bedroom with two children’s beds in it, if needed. Outside in front of the house is a lovely well stocked south facing garden, a small lawn, two sheds and an artist’s studio. There is also a table and four chairs in the garden. There is a drive which accommodates two cars. At the back of the house is another sitting area, and steps up to the canal.

About the location

Slaithwaite (pronounced Slawit by locals) is a Pennine village that has become a popular spot since the canal reopened a few years ago. Recently the Times voted it the best place to live in England. It has a good range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants all within 300 yards of the house. These include a good bookshop, a community greengrocer and bakery, a Co-op, an Aldi, an antiques emporium, a gallery, and a butchers. In terms of eateries we are spoilt for choice with an excellent pizzeria, three Indian restaurants, takeaways, and numerous cafes that do lunch options. We also have a good fish and chip shop.
Further afield is the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Hepworth Gallery. In Halifax, a fine Victorian town, is the stunning Piece Hall and the Eureka museum.
There are amazing walks on the moors directly from the house from here, with the option of flat walks along the canal tow paths. There is a swimming pool and gym, a playground and Huddersfield if five minutes away by train. Yes, there is a station walking distance from the house. It’s 30 minutes to Manchester and 40 minutes to Leeds by train from here, every hour.
