Manor Farmhouse

Our home is an old typical Vale of York farmhouse. The original parts of it date back to the late 18th century. It has been extended, refurbished and re-roofed since we bought it in 1985.

There are 4 double bedrooms, 3 of which have their own en-suite bathrooms, with walk-in showers. 2 of them have dressing rooms. The fourth bedroom uses the adjacent family bathroom, which has a full-sized bath with electric shower.

Downstairs is the original large farmhouse kitchen, with exposed beams, fitted out with bespoke units and granite worktops. There is a range cooker, with induction hob, american style fridge/freezer , bean to cup coffee machine and combination microwave. In the centre of the kitchen is a farmhouse table and 6 chairs. Off the kitchen is a walk-in pantry with lots of storage space and an upright freezer.

Connected to the kitchen is the open-plan dining room, with a further large dining table, side board, bookcase, storage shelves and open fireplace.

On the west side of the house is the lounge/sitting room, with seating occasional tables and smart TV. There is a central double-sided log burner here for chillier days. We now benefit from fibre to the premises broadband.

Also on the ground floor is a south-facing conservatory, with seating and access to the garden. East of the kitchen is a utility room, with washing machine and tumble drier. above this utility room is a play room/5th Bedroom. There is a downstairs toilet/washbasin off the utility room.

The property and the water which it uses, are heated by a heat pump with radiators.

Outside the house there is a large garden. There is a patio in the garden with a barbecue and a covered seating area for alfresco dining. We have a long driveway which means that there is virtually no road noise even though we are in the heart of the village.

There is plenty of off-road parking in our driveway and beyond our garage. We have an electric charging point.

About the location

The small village of Hessay lies in a rural area, 6 miles west of York City centre. It is a quiet backwater between two of the main access roads into York. The bus service is dreadful. Only one bus a day into York. A car is essential. The area around (The Vale of York) is flat and is very popular for cycling. York itself is regularly voted to be England`s most cycle-friendly city. There is a very good Park and Ride scheme in York with a terminal at Poppleton halfway to the city centre from Hessay. This terminal also has a charging point for electric cars. There are 2 other Park and Rides nearby.

We are relatively close to Ripon, Harrogate, Fountains Abbey, Beningbrough Hall and the many attractions of York city. Leeds is about 20 miles away. The Yorkshire Coast is approximately one hours drive away. The Yorkshire Dales are a similar distance.

There are a number of country pubs in the surrounding villages which are good for food and drink. Hessay has a Farm enterprise, Curlew Fields Farm, which sells milk, ice cream coffee and milk shakes from the farmyard. York has all the facilities which you would expect in a city including an excellent rail service plus it is the finest city in the UK (my personal opinion!). Many visitors to York agree with me.

We love it here.

We have a well-behaved Border Collie. She will be travelling with us.
