Spacious house with large garden close to Windsor

Spacious, well-appointed house with lovely large garden -- with a garden fire place and covered area. Large kitchen-diner and loungeroom - large for the UK! The house is officially 3-bedrooms, but we are using two for offices. Featherdown sofa cushions available to make extra single bed on office floor; or sofa could be used.

The house is ideally placed for someone wanting to be able to visit London easily, be convenient to Heathrow, and also have the possibility of lovely woodland walks, riverside life, and easy access to the M25 and wider transport routes.

About the location

Old Windsor is close to Windsor itself: 4 minutes by car, 15 minutes by bike, an hour`s walk through Windsor Great Park (including a section of The Long Walk) to the castle gate. You can also walk the slightly longer route along the Thames footpath.

GREAT FOR WALKERS: Located at the end of a suburban street, the house itself is 5-10 minutes walk to the riverside with its ducks and swans, and 12-15 minutes walk to the Windsor Great Park entrance with its deer and red kite. We just love this area. Given the way the Thames curls, it's possible to explore a lot of the river in chunks ... with the most distant starting point still being less than half an hour's drive away. We also love walking along the Wey Navigations.

GREAT FOR BOAT LOVERS: You can hire a boat at Kris Cruisers (or smaller boats in Windsor itself); you can also take a boat trip along the river, even all the way down to Hampton Court Palace, with French Brothers (frenchbrothers.co.uk/) which is based 15 minutes walk from the house.

GREAT FOR HORSE RIDERS: I cannot recommend the area highly enough to horse lovers. Summer in Windsor Park is horsey heaven, with one event after another, starting with Windsor Horse Show, soon Ascot, there`s polo constantly on at Guards Polo Club in Windsor Park (easy and free to watch), plus a whole variety of carriage-driving and other horse events. You can also take a carriage drive in the park, or have a one-off `hack` in the park (the only operator at present is Wayside Stables). You can ride in a small group around Windsor Park`s dedicated sand tracks, and in Summer through the deer park itself (which is closed to cross-field riding in Winter to preserve the grass); it`s one vista down to Windsor Castle after another. Just magical.

WINDSOR: I don`t need to introduce Windsor itself... It`s lovely.

FLIGHTS: We are very convenient to Heathrow: 20 minutes in a taxi; there`s also a bus that will leave you 5 minutes walk from the house. (Yes, proximity means some flights over head, but they`re not terrifyingly low! And they`re no lower than for the King at Windsor Castle!)

GETTING INTO LONDON: Trains into London Waterloo take about 45 minutes from Egham or Windsor. Or you could take an Uber to Staines, which is zone 6 on the London Transport Network. Or drive or bus up to Slough or Langley (20mins) to take the Elizabeth Line straight into the West End (a route we now love). There are numerous ways to travel into London, actually. There's even a slow, cheap bus.

CAR: If you will largely be working from home and exploring the area, you can survive without a car: a bus runs from Heathrow to Slough; Windsor is walkable/bikeable. But ideally you would hire a small car at the airport for complete freedom in this area. Being close to the M25, it`s easy to get around. I`m happy to discuss using my old Ford Fiesta. Alas, unlike in many other countries, in the UK car insurance is specific to the drivers named on the policy, and most insurers won`t just add others for a short period of time, even for an additional fee. So: I can lend to UK licensed drivers, not at present to people with international licenses. I`ve tried this repeatedly. It`s possible to buy a completely separate short-term policy, especially if you`re Australian... This whole situation annoys me enormously, but there`s nothing I can personally do about the way UK car insurance is structured!
