Lee house farm - Waterhouses near to Alton Towers

Our cottage is situated along side the Manifold cycle trail, which was once a narrow gauge railway deep in the countryside of the Peak District. The trail runs for 9 miles through a picturesque limestone gorge from the village of Waterhouses to the village of Hulme end.

The flowers and wildlife are amazing, particularly in springtime and there is very little light pollution due to its remoteness. It really is the perfect antidote to modern day living.

The cottage itself is a traditional limestone farmhouse dated 17th century, it originally formed part of the Duke of Portland’s estate in 1633. It has a traditional country kitchen and dining room, 2 double bedrooms, 1 single bedroom, bathroom with overhead shower and a cosy living room with a log burner.

A large lawned garden with well stocked perennial flowers, a patio area with outdoor seating and a barbecue. Possible use of wood fired hot tub.

About the location

We are directly on the Manifold cycle trail 1 mile from Waterhouses in Staffordshire. A small village with a pub and shop. The market towns of Leek and Ashbourne are only 8 miles away and the cities of Derby and Stoke on 20 miles. The spa town of Buxton is 12 miles away with beautiful architecture and the famous ornate opera house playing host many different types of entertainment. So even though we are remote, civilisation isn’t too far away, should you fancy eating out or a night of entertainment. The famous theme park Alton towers is only a few miles in the village of Alton. The Peak wildlife park and Churnet valley steam railway are only a short car ride away.

We have some of the best scenery in the country right from the door, including Dovedale, the Roaches, Hope valley, Castleton, Edale at the start of the penine way. The whole area is dotted with pretty chocolate villages, beautiful walks and reservoirs with water sports and fishing available.
