3 bedroom semi-detached house in the historic town of Lewes, East Sussex
Our home is a 3 bedroom semi-detached house in the historic town of Lewes, East Sussex. We are less than 20 minutes by train from the vibrant city of Brighton and just over an hour by train from central London. Our house is on a quiet residential road less than 15 minutes walk in to the town centre. We find it easy and convenient to get in to town on foot but there is also a bus stop less than a minute walk from the house with a frequent service to the town centre. Lewes train station with regular services to London is a fifteen minute walk from our house. There are also buses with services to Brighton every 12 minutes.
I’d describe our house as basic but comfortable, we don’t have a drier for clothes (washing line in the garden) and no dishwasher. We have fibre-optic broadband with a reliable connection. The house sleeps 5 adults or 4 adults and two children. There are two bedrooms with double beds and a small 3rd bedroom with a single bed and toddler bed. The bathroom is upstairs with bath (and shower above bath), toilet and wash basin. Large kitchen with table to seat up to six. Living room with two sofas, record/cd player and television. We have a small garden.
We have two cats whom we would love any potential swappers to feed if willing. Alternatively we can arrange for our cat sitter to pop by and feed them. They are very self-sufficient (e.g. dry food twice daily and no litter trays to empty).
My mum is part of our holiday group and therefore her small cottage will also be available. She lives in the village of South Chailey, 10 minutes from us by car. She has a tiny 2 bedroom terraced cottage built around 1900. It has a cosy feel and is perfect for a couple or up to three adults. Again it lacks mod-cons but is cosy and comfortable and filled with books. There’s a woodburner in the living room and plenty of logs available. There is an hourly bus service in to Lewes but this does not run in the evenings. There is easy on street parking at my home in Lewes and a private car park at my mum’s cottage.
About the location
Lewes is a lovely historic town with a castle, many old churches, medieval streets and narrow twittens. The world-renowned Glyndebourne Opera House is 15 minutes by car (or served by a shuttle bus during the festival season). Lewes Little Theatre is ten minutes walk from the house and there is also an independent cinema in the town as well as many antique shops, coffee shops and 15th century bookshop. The city of Brighton is within easy reach and is home to theatres, art galleries and the Royal Pavilion. We have a lovely river walk about 10 minutes from our front door and the South Downs Way National Trail can be accessed in around 20 minutes on foot. Ashdown Forest, the birthplace of A.A. Milne's ‘Winne the Pooh’ is half an hour by car and is lovely for picnics and walking. The iconic Seven Sisters are also around 30 minutes by car with many walking routes across the chalk cliffs and South Downs.
