The Vicarage
A beautiful and spacious three-storey Victorian terraced house situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, our house is one of an original terraced street which is now a conservation area.
The rooms are large with traditional high ceilings and bay windows, and hung with a range of interesting art works.
The accommodation comprises, on the ground floor: a sitting room, dining room, breakfast room, well equipped kitchen and downstairs loo. On the first and half-landing floor: family bathroom, separate loo, master bedroom, dressing room and "snug" (an upstairs sitting room with TV, stereo etc.) On the top half-landing and floor: twin bedroom, small single room and family bathroom. There are quite a lot of stairs!
To the front, there is a small south-facing garden, which is a work in progress - but a secluded sun trap. To the back there is a small garden and yard with picnic table and covered off-road car parking with electric car charger (Type 2 fast)
It`s a 10 minute walk into Sunderland`s compact and well provided city centre, with corner shops much nearer for essentials. Public transport links are excellent, with buses, Metro trains and mainline trains to Newcastle, the Northumberland coast, Edinburgh and London a similar walking distance away.
About the location
Sunderland is a fine city straddling the River Wear, with a proud maritime, shipbuilding and mining heritage, which is reflected in its architecture and culture. It was the cradle of celtic Christianity in the North-East of England and the birthplace of glassmaking in the British Isles. It is undergoing significant regeneration at present, and has just been awarded "Music City" status - with an exciting programme of events planned for a Year of Music from June 2025.
Its Empire Theatre stages acclaimed touring theatrical productions, while the neighbouring "Fire Station" hosts drama, comedy and live music. There is an array of, sometimes award-winning, independent restaurants, bars and beautiful, traditional public houses.
It`s a 30 minute drive (an hour on the bus) to beautiful Durham, with its world heritage site Cathedral, a similar journey by car or Metro train to the bustling metropolis of Newcastle. A 10 minute drive rewards you with the long golden beaches of Roker and Seaburn to the north, and Seaham to the south, with easy access to the Northumbrian Coastal Path and wonderful fresh fish and chips!
