Classic English Cottage
Our detached early Georgian cottage is five minutes by car to Guildford but set up a tranquil track at the foot of miles of countryside. It is a combination of rural and urban and city!
We are a family of four; we have two children, one of whom is 2 years old and the other is 5 months old. We also have a cat called Oatie who would need feeding during any exchange! I am a teacher and my husband works in finance. We decided with young children that it made perfect sense to look at offering an exchange, so that we can hopefully swap with other families and make the most of not having to pack everything including the kitchen sink!
We are fortunate to have the mix of old and new at our home, with the oldest part of the building dating to at least 1700 and retaining all of the original features. Although we do have young children, adults would also enjoy our space as we have been careful to contain the children's toys in designated spaces and still enjoy adult only spaces across the house.
We have three bedrooms although the playroom also has a very comfortable King size sofa bed in it to extend how many people are able to stay.
We have two children's bedrooms, one of which is currently host to a king bed and small cot. The second children's bedroom currently has one single bed and a large cot.
Our main bedroom has a super king bed with Tempur mattress.
In addition, we have one kitchen and living space, a pantry, one formal dining room, one large sitting room with Inglenook fireplace, one playroom, a cellar utility room and two bathrooms; one downstairs with a shower and one upstairs with a shower and a bath.
Outside, the cottage is surrounded on four sides by mature gardens which total about a third of an acre. Part of the garden is set up for children with a sandpit, water tray, mud kitchen and small seating area. Another area of the garden is set up with a large lounge set and parasol with a BBQ- a lovely adult space! As we are up a track we have few neighbours and no road noise or street lights. The cottage has ample parking for about 6 cars and a car port.
We are open to longer exchanges during the school holidays or outside of these long weekends from Wednesdays- Sundays or days in between.
Heathrow is about 35 minutes in the car and Gatwick 50 minutes.
About the location
Our home is in a small village just outside of Guildford, which is a five minute drive away. The village has two pubs and a local shop and we are fortunate to enjoy miles of countryside walks from outside our front door. From Guildford, trains direct to London take under 35 minutes. My husband who commutes to London for work can be in central London door to door in about 45-50 minutes.
Guildford itself is a beautiful historical town with lovely shops bars and restaurants. Down the road we also have RHS Wisley (15 minutes).
We are spoilt for choice with the number of National Trust properties around, including Petworth, Hatchlands and Polesden Lacey all within 20-30minutes. We are also close to the Hampshire border into Austen land and the attractions that holds!
For families, there are numerous whole day attractions a short drive away and more play cafes, soft plays and farms locally than you could visit on one holiday!
The Surrey Hills are a short 15-20 minute drive away and the lovely Georgian town of Farnham is a 15 minute drive.
Further South, the coast at West Wittering is around an hour away, as are other cities on the South coast such as Brighton.
